“Cuban-American composer Joaquín Nin-Culmell, brother of Anaïs Nin, studied composition with Paul Dukas and Manuel de Falla and was a professor of music at the University of California at Berkeley from 1950 and 1961, consist of 48 brief excursions for solo piano. These exquisite miniatures – arrangements of traditional Spanish songs and dances – retain their ancestral flavor while employing a modern idiom. Maria Luisa Cantos plays brilliantly and with impeccable taste throughout.”

… “The 48 Tonadas are publised in four volumes of 12 pieces each. The recording, made by the marvelous Spanish pianist Maria Luisa Cantos should be in the record collection of every pianist and music lover. Recorded in the Clara Wieck Auditorium in Heidelberg, the recording is exceptionally good in all ways.”
